The N.I. Dorset sheep breeders club had a fantastic promotional day on Monday 3rd July at NSA sheep event in Ballymena.
The N.I. Dorset committee members under the leadership of chairperson, Amy McConnell and vice chair, Allister McNeill, worked tirelessly throughout the duration of the event, promoting the Dorset breed and serving refreshments to all visitors to the stand.
The Dorset club ladies had put in a lot of pre-event prep and were in a strong position to serve homemade tray bakes, buns and cup cakes with choice of tea, coffee or fruit juice to everyone who came along on the day to view the strong exhibits in the display pens on the Dorset stand.
The exhibition sheep on the stand were kindly loaned by :-
Allister McNeill (3 shear Poll Dorset ram)
Laura Weir (Rouge X ewe with twin - spring born, Poll Dorset ewe lambs)
Andrew Kennedy (Suffolk X ewe with twin - spring born, Poll Dorset ewe lambs)
William Carson (Dorset X ewe with out of season twin Poll Dorset X ewe lambs)
The focus this year was to display the crossing ability of the Dorset ram onto some of the most prominent ewe crosses in Northern Ireland and also exhibit the ability of half bred Dorset ewes to lamb successfully out of season.
The stand and sheep were very well accepted by the visitors and and some very positive comments were received which hopefully will bode well for the forthcoming 45th Annual Premier show and sale on 31st July in Ballymena livestock mart.
Sale catalogues are with the printers and will be available shortly. Catalogue requests can be made through both the Club's Facebook page and email address.
