N.I. Dorset Breeders Have a Flyer at Carlisle Show & Sale

Northern Ireland Dorset breeders who attended the Carlisle show and sale came away in jubilant mood after a very successful show and sale for the sheep from the province.
Topping the day's trade was Thomas Wright's Ballytaggart flock from Ballymoney, with a ram lamb, Ballytaggart Saxon, by homebred stock sire Ballytaggart Premium - a Malkay son. This ram sold for the top sale price of 1100gns selling to Sam Driver, Glossop, Derbyshire. Thomas Wright also won the Male Champion and Reserve Supreme at the Borderway event with another Ballytaggart ram lamb, this time by the stock ram Downkillybegs NiteHawk - himself a former Carlisle supreme champion, who later sold for 600gns selling to Matt Care, Burhos flock, Helston, Cornwall.
Taking the second top price of the day was another Northern Ireland ram lamb, this time from N.I. club chairman, Ben Lamb. Mr Lamb's Richhill Stallone, by Downkillybegs Pegasus, was a carrier of Myomax muscle gene and sold up north to Mrs Marianne Sheed, Huntly, Aberdeenshire.
Topping the female trade was the day's Female and Supreme Overall Champion, as picked by Brenda Wear, Redhill flock, Butcombe, Somerset, a ewe lamb from Association Chairman David Rossiter, Kingsbridge, Devon. This impressive ewe lamb, by Bennachie Nimrod sold for 700gns to Toby Holland, Cardigan, Ceredigion. This was then followed by another female from Mr Rossiter's Huish flock, at 540gns, this time an in lamb shearling ewe carrying lambs to Bennachie Nimrod. Another Huish shearling ewe then came next in the price stakes at 500gns selling to Mr Holland .
The same price was also matched by the best shearling ewe from David Lewis's Pembroke flock from pembrokeshire, Wales selling at 500gns to Louise Crowther, Bromyard, Hereford. Next came a ewe lamb from W. & K. Carson, Downkillybegs, Ballymena. This Ballytaggart Puma daughter sold at 480gns to Ballytaggart flock owner, Thomas Wright, Ballymoney. Thomas Wright's pen of five ewe lambs sold for the top pen price of 305gns each selling to Mr & Mrs Kerr.
